AS THE PEOPLE'S National Party (PNP) machinery cranks up for the upcoming Local Government election, voters from the Corporate Area, St. James and St. Ann are being targeted.
These are the areas which the PNP lost during the October general election.
"The party plans to make back grounds in St. Ann, St. James and the Corporate Area," a party official told The Sunday Gleaner yesterday, shortly after a special delegate conference held at Mico College, Kingston, yesterday.
He said that the party has already approved the majority of its candidates and by next week all divisions will be settled.
The Sunday Gleaner understands that persons who were not selected to represent the party at the local government level, have been invited to appeal the decision through a tribunal which was established with the framework of the organisation.
Persons from Region 4 and the Corporate Area will be face the tribunal tomorrow, while persons across the rest of the island will be accommodated on Tuesday.
Chairman of Region Three, Paul Burke, said there is a mixture of grassroots politicians, professionals and persons from the business sector in the line-up for the poll.
He pointed out that former Member of Parliament for East Rural St. Andrew, Oliver Clue, is the only former MP in Region Three who has been recommended and approved by the party so far. Mr. Clue will be contesting the Harbour View Division of that constituency.
