Charmaine Austin, Staff Reporter

DARK clouds hovered and intermittent rain dampened the field but athletes seemed unaffected as 10 records were established up to press time yesterday in the 10th Swizzzle/JC Invitational track meet held at Jamaica College.

High jumpers, distance runners and discus throwers led the way, generating excitement on an otherwise dank afternoon.

Holmwood's Shaunette Davidson set a meet record when she cleared 1.79 metres in the 17-18 girls' high jump, erasing the old mark of 1.62 metres.

Alpha's Peaches Roach was second in the event with 1.76 metres.

St Andrew High's Analee Nembhard topped the girls' under-12 high jump in a record 1.55m. Her teammate Dicoda Waugh also set a new mark with her 1.63 metres in the 13-14 girls' high jump.

Jessica McLeod of Edwin Allen and Venessa Whittle of Tacius Golding both set meet records in the 800 metres.

McLeod finished in 2:25.3 seconds in the 13-14 category while Whittle topped the field in the 15-16 age group in a time of 2:21.2.

Wainard Talbert, another Holmwood athlete established a new meet record after clocking 14:41.2 in the 5,000 run. He finished second to winner Michael Tomlin of Windalco whose 14:27.0 was itself a meet record.

Class one competitor Kimani Kirton of Kingston College heaved the discus 53.68 metres for a new standard.

The class two discus record was set by Jermaine Morgan of Bog Walk Comprehensive (49.75 metres).

Kayon Thompson of Edwin Allen outlasted the competition to win the 17-18 girls' 800 metres in a record breaking 2:18.5 seconds.

Samantha Henry of The Queens' School got her name in the record books when she posted 11.8 seconds in the 13-14 girls 100 metres.
