Ban dark-tinted windows!
published: Sunday | January 5, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WISH TO suggest the following measure which apparently has been overlooked despite the heightened security initiatives which were recently considered, namely:-

"That subject to certain exceptions related to the need for special security for some Government and other officials, the use of opaque (impenetrably dark) tints on the windows of motor vehicles traversing our roadways, be banned!"

I strongly recommend the implementation of legislation to this effect to our Government, which would be of significant benefit not only to our beleaguered security forces, but as well to law-abiding road-users whose judgement and patience is compromised due to the inability to judge the movement of traffic ahead, when stuck behind one of these offending vehicles.

It is to be noted that in the Cayman Islands where their crime and traffic problems are minuscule, in comparison to ours, legislation to the effect suggested above has been in force to my knowledge for more than a decade. Indeed, only instrumentally measured light tints are allowed!

I am, etc.,

GEOFFREY RAMSAY

St. Andrew
