Power outages disrupting Mandeville water supply
published: Tuesday | December 24, 2002

THE NATIONAL Water Commission is blaming disruption of Mandeville's water system and that of surrounding areas in Manchester, on the current failures in the power supply system.

In a news release yesterday, the NWC said the disruption was the result of the failure in the public power supply affecting the Greater Mandeville Water Supply System.

"While the NWC has been assured that the power outage is expected to be short, NWC customers are advised that the water supply disruption will last longer than the power outage, as it will take some time for the water supply system to be re-charged and re-energised," the release states.

"Customers are reminded that because of the heavy reliance on electricity for the operation of water supply pumps and systems, wherever voltage fluctuations, load-shedding and power outages occur, the supply of water to many areas will be affected."

The NWC said it regretted the inconvenience caused and would be doing everything it could to provide a reliable supply of water during the holidays.
