Loan repayment frustration

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I HAVE benefited from the GOJ/World Bank loan to attend UWI. I have been repaying my loan faithfully to NCB/SLB for the past four years. However, on April 25, 2002 when I tried to make my payments at the teller at NCB, I was told that the account was closed and I needed to go to the loans department to find out why it was closed.

In the loans department I was told that SLB was now responsible for administration of the repayments. Anyway, the loans officer still accepted my payments. On May 22, 2002, I went back to NCB, this time to the loans department first. There I was told that I should now make my deposit at BNS. I went to BNS to make the payment, however, the teller told me I had to know the SLB account number. Naturally, I did not know the number. I left without making my payments and now I am scared my name will be printed in the news media.

I would like to ask NCB/SLB why is that I have not been contacted about the new arrangements? How do I know the SLB account number? Are there any changes in relations to my debt obligations? What about debtors abroad who are sending monies here to make their payments?

Common customer service dictates that we should have better communications.

I am etc.,
