Barber shop in police station a novel idea

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I DO not appreciate the tone of the report, "Police station sports barber shop, laundromat" in your edition of Saturday, December 29, 2001.

In spite of the fact that it may be unauthorised, I consider that a novel idea that the government or the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) could seek to pursue in as many police stations as are large enough or have land space to house these facilities.

The police could think about undertaking these projects in order to generate revenue to fund their many activities. The project also has the potential to engender better relationships between police and civilians, particularly our boys and young men who are overwhelmingly anti-police.

I hope that the officers who are responsible for these projects are not suspended from the force but are interviewed to ascertain other interesting ideas they may have which are not only fund-raising ventures but also have the potential to create a more harmonious relationship between the lawmen and the citizenry.

I am etc.,
