Gov't waste and taxpayers pain

THE EDITOR, Sir:

OUR GOVERNMENT has apparently 'given' away taxpayers money again, or so it seems. This disbursement of over $200 million of our money to NetServ is just another example of the wanton waste of our poor people's resources. This Government has been habitually involved in this practice over the years.

One which readily stands out in my mind is the BOJ scandal, when agents of the Bank of Jamaica bought millions of US dollars on the street in 1993 for between $24 and $26 each, whilst the Central Bank resold these for 22 dollars to the market. All this was to give us the impression that our dollar was stabilised, prior to the 1993 General Election. Taxpayers lost hundreds of millions of dollars for that public relations ploy.

Everyday we hear about our monies being squandered in cost-overruns on contracts.

Recently our Minister of Finance informed us that his 'model' of financing our budget, has cost us $120 billion, along with our future and that of our children and grand-children. Thanks, Omar, we have no one to blame, but ourselves.

Tell me, who was the Prime Minister referring to, when he said that people ask for something and when they get it, they cannot manage it. Could it be the PNP?

I am, etc.,
