THE EDITOR, Sir:
LAST YEAR I took the opportunity to write my New Year's wishes for Jamaica, unfortunately the year has ended and rather than my wishes coming true I have to face the undeniably truth that my wishes fell on deaf ears.
Again I make my wishes for Jamaica for this New Year. I wish the people of this country who are being kept in poverty and ignorance will realise the magnitude of this crime against them. That those who are being used to kill and destroy their own will know that the death of a brother or sister will not bring them joy but will leave an undeniable legacy for their own children to follow.
That Jamaica belongs to taxpayers and all who live in this beautiful country have the right to enjoy its riches, it is not reserved for a few.
That our children will see us as role models and that their deeds and their actions will be fashioned after our own and we will be proud of our actions.
That we will take a stand and defend our rights as a people who have constantly been battered, who have lost hope because our hopes are taken, our faith is shattered and our dreams killed.
That the legacy we leave will be a legacy we can be proud of, that the goals we attain will be our pride and joy and the lives we preserve will help to preserve our nation and our children.
That we no longer will be content to be victims but will accept our role as the victors, that poverty and crime is not our true heritage.
That we will extend love and compassion to all.
We will demand that our tax dollars are well spent and accounted for. We will recognise that we are the bosses and not the servants, that we have the right to dictate our fate and will no longer support that which destroys, but will seek to build and restore our nation.
Perhaps, the gods might hear me if you join in my pleas and our hearts are united.
I am etc.,
FAYE ELLECE JACOBS
