Capt Burrell and coaches

Cargill and Brown

THE EDITOR, Sir:

CAN CAPTAIN Horace Burrell explain to this nation, how can a country which has produced Bob Marley, Marcus Garvey, Merlene Ottey, Herb McKenley, Colin Powell, John Barnes, Allan Cole and T.P. Lecky, not able to produce a successful football coach.

Captain, we are grateful for your decision to use a foreign coach (Technical Director) to take us to the last World Cup. But if after six years with foreign coaches you are still insisting that we continue with them, then the decision lacked vision as their accomplishments are not sustaining. Had the finances spent over those years been used to develop our local coaches and implement a proper development programme locally, then local football could have far surpassed where Carl Brown and Peter Cargill had gotten it recently.

Captain, never put down a Jamaican, Carl Brown, Peter Cargill and any local coach can achieve just as much as Alex Ferguson, once they set their minds to it, work hard and get the necessary support.
