Jamaica's messy environment

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM disgusted, depressed, debilitated and totally distraught with conditions in our beautiful island home.

The environment, the Garden of Eden, which God created for humanity for posterity is still being destroyed by mankind in more ways than one.

On this occasion I am specially alluding to the collection of domestic garbage/waste.

The MPM, the CPM and the SPM have a 'helluva' job in trying to maintain order and to endeavour to have the place clean and free from wanton destruction by those people who continue to have no feelings for, and don't really care about how, the environment looks.

Thousands of scandal bags are being used to contain the garbage by the populace but the dogs destroy them and so the garbage is scattered.

There is also the problem of cows and goats roaming the streets and particularly hazardous are those cows one sees at nights in the May Pen area.

I close with an appeal to the authorities that you supply the workers on the trucks with gloves and all the necessary tools (including fan rakes) in order for them to clean up the area from which they remove the mess.

And last but by no means least, could they be supplied with uniforms or at least raincoats so they be protected from the rain.

I am, etc.,

DORRITT A. BENT

Spalding,

Manchester
