WESTERN BUREAU:
THE POLICE in Westmoreland are baffled over the identity of two bodies that were found with multiple gunshot wounds at Sweet River district on Saturday night.
According to the CCN parish liaison officer Corporal Alva Douglas, about 6 p.m., an anonymous caller alerted the police about the bodies. Half an hour later, the police found the bodies of two men along a dirt road off the Sweet River main road.
One of the men is about 25 years old, slim build, dark complexion, and about 5' 11". The body was clad in blue jeans shorts, multicoloured shirt, and brown shoes. The second body is believed to be about 65 years old, 5' 6" tall, dark complexion and slim build. It was clad in grey pants, white shirt and black shoes. Both bodies had multiple gunshot wounds to the head, neck and back.
No motive has been established for the killings. The Westmoreland police are asking the public to call 955-2758 or 918-0215 to assist them in identifying the bodies. Anyone with information can call.
The murder rate in the parish has increased sharply since the police made a record drug haul in Belmont district two weeks ago. Police in the parish have confirmed the existence of a hit list with the names of ten persons, who are accused of informing the police about the drug.
Last Sunday, 42-year old Constantine 'Prince' Roxbo-rough, a fisherman of Belmont, and who allegedly headed the list, was shot dead at pointblank range in front of several witnesses. Dermot Jeffrey, a 20-year-old tailor of the same district, was shot dead when gunmen went to his house in search of his father. The police confirmed that the father's name was also on the list.
