On My Mind - Men beat women 'cause they're gay

By Simone Kenny, Contributor

EVER WONDERED why there are so many Jamaican men who beat up women?

Well, I've figured it out repression of their homosexuality.

I believe there are many men who are repressing their homosexual tendencies. They hate being with women but because our society so strongly advocates that they relate only to the opposite sex they turn on women, beating us for reasons which they create facades. In truth, there can be no reason to beat up a woman.

Women, my advice to you is that if you are in such a situation think carefully about the reasoning above and do not blame yourself for your position just rise above it. There are many of us who have done it and many others who will.

We may not want to think that our man is a homosexual but it is time to face the reality and the treatment. Use his treatment towards you as a marker for his capacity to love women. If he tries to curtail your rights to have other male friends, receive phone calls or physically pushes you around it is because he is insecure about his manhood and sexuality. It means he is grappling with controlling his homosexual drives.

EXCOMMUNICATE THE WOMAN-BEATERS

To the real men out there: If you know that your brethren is turning on his women and beating her it is time you to take some action. You can help by excommunicating these, sometimes well known, individuals from your circles. Take a second to think about your mothers, sisters and daughters you will be protecting them. I have never heard a woman say that she likes to be beaten up, although I've heard the myth mouthed by those who are inexperienced in the matter.

DJs, start preaching to the men in our society about how they treat their women make the link. Start defining a homosexual as a man who fights women. After all apart from all the genetic reasons, the root of homosexuality must be some unconscious dislike for women in the face of a preference for men. Think about it.

The prevalence of violence against women in Jamaica, which cuts across socio-economic barriers, is symptomatic of the cowardice which stems from serious homosexual repression on the part of our men.

Men, reflect and try to acknowledge who you really are. Own up to your sexuality and stop being antagonistic towards women. The benefit of this is that some women may have a more peaceful life when men, in recognition of their true selves, turn on each other instead.

These are my thoughts and beliefs about the underlying reason for men on women violence. Please contradict these views or state your agreement by continuing the dialogue.
