Put Caribbean interest first

THE EDITOR, SIR:

It was disturbing to read your article on the Labor Day Carnival here in Brooklyn.

Your account made no mention of the fact that Fernando Ferrer, the minority candidate for mayor marched with H. Carl McCall, who plans to run for Governor of New York state next year.

If he wins he would be the first person of African descent to be governor of New York state. Should Fernando Ferrer win he would be the second minority candidate to do so. Mayor David Dinkins was the first.

Now the coalition being formed between people of African descent and Hispanics here in New York is of the utmost importance to us in this city.

It is important that Caribbean people learn who would best represent our interest.

As a consequence your not mentioning the aforementioned persons was to do us a disservice.

Especially in light of the fact that you did not fail to mention that the senior senator from New York, Charles Schumer, marched up the Parkway with a huge Jamaican flag.

I am, etc.,
