Ineffective Government

THE EDITOR, SIR:

There is no more important function of Government than to protect its citizens. This Government has failed miserably.

The Prime Minister is silent to the point of almost being non-existent, Mr. Knight is incompetent, and all the while Jamaica slowly stews in its own juice.

We should be looking at suspending projects like Highway 2000 and other such projects and pour all our resources into tackling this crime problem.

What good is a state-of-the-art highway, when all the business will have fled to safer locations and the remaining citizens are too scared to leave their homes?

Mr. Patterson, it is obvious that you or Mr. Knight have no ideas left as to how to tackle this monster that is destroying Jamaica. This WILL destroy Jamaica, slowly, but surely. No ifs or buts.

Mr. Patterson, you need to act, and act decisively, or history will judge you harshly.

Fire Mr. Knight. Appoint your most capable minister, Dr. Phillips, to the portfolio of Ministry of National Security.

Re-appoint Col. MacMillian as Commissioner of Police. Increase the size of the JCF. Urgently improve the investigative capability of the JCF.

Go after these unrepentant criminals with the full force of the law, or stand by and watch while Jamaica becomes the first failed state in the Western hemisphere.

That is the stark choice you face today. Mr. Prime Minister.

I am, etc,
