Glenmuir optimistic

AFTER WINNING the Ben Francis KO on three occasions, the latest in 1999 but losing in the daCosta Cup finals on three other occasions, the latest being 1999 again, Glenmuir are seeking to get the proverbial monkey off their back this season.

After the disappointment of the 1999 season when they advanced to two finals but came away with just the 'consolation cup' and failing to get by the inter-zone round with a young team last year, coach Glenston Hutchinson said they should get to the quarter-finals at least and then take it step by step from there.

With "seven or eight players" from last year's squad returning to school, Hutchinson says the team boasts a strong all-round line-up but players such as Ryan Maxwell, Roger Kelly, Oniel Allen and Glenford Belight should stand out.

Preparations, he said, had been going along nicely as they had not lost to any school teams and the players were showing signs of being ready to step up to the challenge.

Getting out of Zone I will not be easy, Hutchinson said, adding that from all indications Old Harbour and Garvey Maceo should have strong teams this year.
