Charged with illegal possession of firearm ammunition, robbery with aggravation and shooting with intent is Junior Reid, 25, of Hopewell.
The police reported that Reid and another man boarded a taxi at Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay. On reaching Mount Salem, they brandished guns, robbed the driver of $800 and ordered him to take them to Wakefield in Trelawny. On leaving Mount Salem, the taxi driver came upon a passing police patrol vehicle and the men allegedly opened fire at the lawmen and abandoned the vehicle.
In a bid to escape, Reid was set up on by citizens who beat and handed him over to the police. He has since been hospitalised under police guard. A .357 Magnum was taken from him, according to the police.
