SUZETTE GIBSON, one of two Cable and Wireless employees charged in connection with the illegal wire-tapping of the telephones of several public officials, is booked to return to court on Thursday, September 13.
The customer service clerk, who worked at the Pavilion Plaza branch on Constant Spring Road, appeared before Resident Magistrate Joyce Bennett on Wednesday when the new date was set.
She is represented by attorney-at-law Walter Scott.
A summons was served on Miss Gibson following investigations which began last October about several reports of people's telephone lines being tapped. Among those said to be tapped were that of Prime Minister P. J. Patterson and Deputy Commis-sioner of Police Owen Clunie.
On August 3, the DPP ruled that the head of the civilian-led Intelligence-Unit, Roderick McGregor, Miss Gibson and fellow co-worker Devon Francis be charged with breaches of the Public Utilities Protection Act.
They are charged with tampering with the works of Cable and Wireless, it being a public utility. Francis and Gibson were also charged with using the works in a manner inconsistent with the expressed or implied authority of Cable Wireless.
Francis, who is being represented by attorney-at-law George Little, appeared in the St. Andrew RM Court two weeks ago, while Gibson was vacationing in the United States. He will re-appear with Gibson on September 13.
McGregor is still off the island.
