Crime and the JPSCo

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE RUNNING of a country is somewhat like the running of an organisation, in that plans must be made, targets set and responsible persons held accountable when targets are not met. I speak specifically of two areas where this has not been the case, These are in the areas of crime management and the Jamaica Public Service Company.

It is unacceptable that a civilised country continue to have the levels of crime and power cuts that we do without some accountability for targets not being met. The managers need to say that in a year, violent crimes will be 50 per cent less and in a month there will be no more power cuts. When these targets are not met then the responsible persons must be held accountable, and possibly lose their jobs if the targets are not met.

It is ridiculous that in this day and age we cannot have this accountability for these two essential areas.

We must understand that the management of crime and the uninterrupted provision of utilities are basic necessities.

I am etc.,
