Do-or-die for Young Boyz

By Audley Boyd, Staff Reporter

BUENOIS AIRES:

KEVON HARRIS, who came on a substitute for full-back Sean Fraser in Wednesday's 0-1 loss to Finland, looks set to start in Jamaica's do-or-die match today against Argentina, at the FIFA Youth Championship.

However, leading forward Christopher 'Kemo' Nicholas, who picked up a knee injury in the game, is doubtful and his likely replacement is Craig Gordon, who has come on as a substitute in both matches.

"He's injured. We're looking at the possibility of replacing him," said Wendell Downswell, Jamaica's coach in response to the striker's non-participation in a 40-minute full field squad match during training

at Velez Sarsfield ground on Wednesday. Gordon and Harris played on the starting team.

"Craig Gordon would be the likely person to start instead of 'Kemo'.

"We're looking at the possibility again of bringing in Harris at left back for Woolry (Wolfe) because we need to get some more thrust in terms of our flank players.

"Fraser (Sean) remains on the right," added Downswell of possible changes for what should be their toughest match in Group A.

The three-time champions, whose team is stocked with top-class players such as US$30 million rated 19-year-old Javier Saviola, the little wonder kid from River Plate who hit a hat-trick in their 7-1 win over Egypt on Wednesday.

It was their second win in as many starts and qualified them for the second stage as almost certain winners of the group, from which the top two are certain of spots in the Round of 16.

There are six groups overall and the top four third-placed teams will win the other four spots.

Jamaica, with a better goal difference, are tied with Egypt on a point each, while Finland are second with three.

"Our fate still lies in our hands. We've a possibility now of getting three points. We're hell bent on that. It will take a dream performance from just about every player. We've all recognised that, we'll just try and continue to motivate them, keep them in this spirit and hope that they will go into the game and display that" said Downswell after a very spirited work-out.

The inclusion of Harris, who replaced Fraser at half-time in the Finland game, is expected to fill part of the void created in offence with little or not much input from the full backs.
