THE ALL-ISLAND limited overs cricket competition has been postponed once again and is now scheduled to get underway on Saturday, June 23.
The competition which involves the nine clubs and two parish teams from the Surrey Senior Cup, the five parish teams from the Middlesex Senior Cup and the five parish teams from the Cornwall Senior Cup, was scheduled to start last Saturday and following the withdrawal of sponsors Sandals it was rescheduled to start on Saturday.
According to Brian Breese, chief executive officer of the Jamaica Cricket Board of Control, the JCBC was in negotiations with a potential sponsor but that has fallen through.
The competition will now be sponsored in part by the JCBC. The board will pick up the travelling expenses for the teams as well as the umpires fees while the participating teams will be responsible for other expenses such as lunch, balls and ground preparation.
In an effort to cut the travelling and accommodation expenses, the board has changed the grouping of the teams.
The groups are now:
Group A - St. Mary, Trelawny, Police, Hanover and Westmoreland; Group B - defending champions St. Ann, Manchester, Clarendon, Jamaica Defence Force and St. Elizabeth; Group C - St. Catherine CC, St. Catherine Parish, Kingston CC, St. Thomas, Lucas and Boys' Town; Group D - Melbourne, Portland, Kensington, St. Mary and Tivoli.
The winners of each group will contest the semi-finals with the winners meeting in the final.
