WEST INDIES cricket team manager Ricky Skerritt has expressed surprise that sports psychologist Joe Hoad has claimed he had resigned from his position with the team.
Skerritt said Hoad's contract had ended.
Speaking from his home in St Kitts, Skerritt said he had told Hoad four weeks ago his services would not be required beyond the term of his 11-week contract which ended last week.
"For Hoad to claim he has resigned when his contract had already ended is a ridiculous attempt by Hoad to save face," Skerritt said.
"I also find it strange that Hoad has called for fines against players when he himself had strongly opposed the batting and fielding fines introduced by management for the final Test match in Jamaica," added Skerritt.
Skeritt claims Hoad is angry with him for not recommending that he be re-hired, and has joined the ranks of those who are seeking to discredit and scapegoat the management of the team for the recent losses.
"Finger-pointing is too much of a pastime for people like Hoad who (in my opinion) only look out for their image," charged Skerritt.
"Those who have closely observed this team for the past 14 months know that we have worked hard, in difficult circumstances, and are making progress," the West Indies manager said.
Skerritt said he is confident that the West Indies will do very well in Zimbabwe and Kenya because of the lessons learnt and the foundation that has been laid over the past 14 months.
