Shaggy for Sumfest

Shaggy

WESTERN BUREAU:

WITH THE signing of deejay Shaggy, Summerfest Promotions the organisers of the annual music festival Reggae Sumfest have been forced to maintain the Thursday to Sunday format they introduced last year.

The mega-platinum selling artiste is only available to perform on Sunday, August 5. Summerfest director, Johnny Gourzong, said Shaggy would be on a tour with the American male group Backstreet Boys and would only be able to get that date off.

The promoters had been concerned about maintaining the Thursday to Sunday format but Gourzong said with Shaggy being only available for the Sunday they had no choice.

He also said that with the following day being a holiday - Independence Day - attendance should not be affected.

Sumfest is still in the organisational stage but the promoters say they are expecting a succesful staging. Apart from Shaggy the promoters are said to be in negotiations with several other top entertainers.

Shaggy, born Richard Burrell, recently made a strong come-back with the songs It Wasn't Me and Angel, taken from the album Hot Shot.

SumFest is expected to be staged from July 31- August 5.
