Overpriced and overtaxed

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Thanks to Mark deFeitas, (Gleaner Thursday May 17, 2001), for exposing C&WJ concerning the high rates they charge for their Internet service as against other services that are superior to theirs.

This game of over-charging and high pricing seems like a disease that affects only Jamaicans and the product thereof; no wonder the country is unable to compete on most fronts worldwide. Is there anything Jamaican that isn't overpriced or overtaxed? "How they arrive at some of their pricing, remain a mystery, and unless there are some radical change in the price charged for Jamaica's goods and services, the country will continue in the backwater of progress.

Jamaica needs to take a leaf from the book of countries like China and Taiwan, "quick sale, small profit".

I am, etc.,
