The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has widened its lead over the ruling People's National Party (PNP) in national support, the latest survey shows.
According to the polls, conducted on behalf of The Gleaner by Don Anderson and his team from Market Research Ltd., 26.1 per cent of those interviewed said they would vote for the JLP if the general election was called soon.
Another 20.4 per cent said they would vote for the PNP, which last Sunday launched its campaign for election to a fourth consecutive term. The National Democratic Movement received four per cent support.
Close to 50 per cent of those interviewed said they would not vote for any of the three major political parties. The JLP has therefore extended its lead by three per cent in less than five months. Results of the Don Anderson poll, which were published in January, showed the JLP with a 23 per cent to 20 per cent lead over PNP.
The latest survey, conducted between April 27 and 30, involved interviews of a nationally representative sample of 1,000 persons, ages 18 and over, in all parishes. The sample error was plus or minus 3.2 per cent.
