Top cop BRENT HILL

His love for law and order were quickly realised while attending high school in Port Antonio, and today with relentless work along with an unbiased attitude he was voted top cop in the parish of Portland on two separate occasions.

While attending Titchfield High School during the period 1981-1986, Brent Hill, displayed a level of discipline, respect, and courtesy to the then principal, teachers and his peers. This was quickly accessed and maintained during his teenage years, both as a cadet and scout. At the end of his high school years the dreams were transformed into reality and in August 1994 he entered the police force.

Now in his 7th year as a policeman, Mr. Hill, was promoted from Constable to Corporal in 1999, and has the distinction of being voted Top Cop of the parish in 1997 and also in 1999 to 2000, a feat only achieved by him. Not only was he voted top cop on two separate occasions, but he single-handedly started the police bicycle patrol, and created a spirit of socialising, love and unity amongst residents and the police.

"Since the bicycle patrol came into existence in the parish, there has been good community relations between residents and the police", said Mr. Hill. "This has enable us to have closer links with the community as we often do career talks at the schools, and we have now developed a close relationship with senior residents".

According to Mr. Hill, being able to work in his hometown of Port Antonio has also made a difference, as he is able to interact with familiar faces.

The launch of several youth clubs in the parish is also another of Mr. Hill's personal achievement. This, he said, has mobilised the youth, transforming rivalry into friendship. He however expresses the desire to have more policemen doing bicycle patrol, to create awareness, and to enable them to venture into remote communities and learn the plight of residents.

"My job has been made easier by socialising with every individual", he said. "I have, and will continue to display a level of honesty and respect in all areas".

He noted however that there is still a mountain to climb, and commended his superiors for having faith in him. Adding that his dream is to create good communications between residents and the police, and also to make Port Antonio a crime-free town.
