Cops to face court for unlawfully wounding

THE TRIAL of three policemen charged with unlawfully wounding a 21-year-old bank clerk last year, is expected to commence in the St. Andrew Resident Magistrate's Court, Half-Way Tree, on April 6.

The three policemen, Constables Markland Telemaque, Emerson Donald and Lloyd Richards are charged with shooting up a route taxi in St. Andrew in May last year, resulting in Trafalgar Commercial Bank (TCB) clerk Sophia Richards being shot in the back of the head. The bullet later fell from Miss Richard's head while she was combing her hair for work one morning.

Two of the policemen, Constables Telemaque and Donald, were among eight local policemen recruited by the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) only a month after the incident. They are currently on leave from their Bermudan jobs, pending the outcome of the trial.

The matter is being heard by Resident Magistrate Jennifer Straw. Constables Richards and Donald are represented by Tom Tavares-Finson and Constable Telemaque by Arthur Kitchin. Miss Richards, no relation to Constable Richards, is being represented by George Soutar.
