LAST SATURDAY night Pulse held its sashing ceremony for 15 gorgeous contestants in this year's 'Miss Jamaica Universe' beauty pageant, at the Les Ambassadeurs, Hilton Kingston Hotel.

The gathering was an informal one and guests were entreated by Pulse's chief executive officer, Kingsley Cooper, to socialise and partake of an array of hors d'oeuvres.

Mr. Cooper also said the Miss Universe contest was celebrating 50 years of existence and the international pageant would be held in Puerto Rico on Friday, May 11.

Sashes were pinned on to Maria Lewis, Miss Fontana Pharmacy; Rashida Gopie, Miss Don Paul Limited; Melisa Roche, Miss Tyre Brokers; Keesha Scott, Miss New China Town Restaurant; Patrice Wiggan, Miss Primary Auto Care; Altoria Davis, Miss Mack D's; Jerone Scott, Miss Fountain Wholesale; Natalia Cummings, Miss CNR Associates; Simone Scarlett, Miss Power Services; Renee Harper, Miss Captain Bakery; Deidre-Ann Chen, Miss Empire Supermarket; Zahra Burton, Miss Dagian Designer World; Ladisa Perry, Miss Little Pub; Trecia Bennett, Miss International Travel Service; and Stacy-Ann Wills, Miss Auto Vision.

Presentations of make-up kits were made by Revlon.

The reigning 'Miss Jamaica Universe', Dr. Saphire Longmore, announced her sponsorship of two charities - the Innercity Football League and a fund-raiser to be launched on Friday, March 30, to give financial aid to a young man with bone infection who is to be operated on in the United States.
