Nationalism and inefficiency

THE EDITOR, Sir:

TO GARTH Rattray's column, I say why should I pay for inefficient service in the name of nationalism. We've had enough of this bull!

Jamaica as an economy will move forward when we have world class services delivered at competitive prices, not when we have stifling monopolies that benefit few in senior management.

Notwithstanding the ridiculousness of comparing humans to ducks, the comparison misses a larger point. Countries like Singapore and Ireland have allowed foreign companies to purchase domestic assets and they are now the better for it ­ in standards of living, efficient services, foreign exchange reserve and foreign direct investment.
