By Nodley Wright, Staff ReporterNATIONAL footballer Onandi Lowe must be feeling like water in a period of drought - wanted and precious.
The burly utility player has been getting offer after offer of late with even one club claiming to be a signature away from having him on their books.
The latest club to be tailing Lowe are the US Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Los Angeles Galaxy, who are seeking to have Jamaica's leading goal scorer in the World Cup qualifiers as a guest player in the CONCACAF Champions Cup which takes place in Los Angeles, California, from January 16-21.
"When it rains it pours," said the player's manager, Patricia Garel in an interview with The Gleaner yesterday.
Earlier this week it was reported that Brazilian club Portuguesa, one German club Stuttgart, MLS champions Kansas City Wizards and a number of teams in Britain, were interested in the player.
"It is an invitation to which he would be paid to play per day for each match. This deal would be also with the view to signing him as a striker for the upcoming season so it would also be a chance for them to have him get used to the atmosphere," Garel explained.
"We have until Monday to decide if he will reply to this offer and we will do so. In any case if he does take up any of these offers now he would have to seek permission from the national coaching staff as he is due to be in camp with the national team on Monday," she added.
But while the Galaxy are presenting their case for the big man one British club, Port Vale in the Second Division, are claiming to have all but signed.
A report on Port Vale's web page on the web site teamtalk under the headline "one in - one on way!" :" Vale are also close to securing a deal for Jamaican international striker Onandi Lowe who is set to put pen-to-paper on a deal at Vale Park after he has secured a work permit."
The other forward mentioned was Watford's Steve Brooker who was secured on a month's loan.
It also quoted the club's manager Brian Horton saying he did not see any problems with them completing a deal for the player.
"Onandi Lowe has a good reputation and was interesting a few other clubs. We still need to work out the work permit but we don't anticipate any problems," he was quoted as saying.
"We should have four strikers in our squad for next Saturday which is exactly what we need with a busy run of games coming up," he continued.
On the Port Vale report Garel had little to say except that "he is still in discussions with a number of clubs and will take his time to make up his mind."
