An exciting cycle

Ainsley Henriques

OUR NEW Year's wish for fellow Jamaicans: As we end this year and this millennium we must remind ourselves of the circle of life. As we begin this new and exciting cycle we must not harp on the "good old days", wishing that they may come back but we must all strive to make these coming days "the best of times".

One way to do this is to examine our past mistakes and not repeat them. Another way is to recall what worked for each of us and repeat it. Yet another way is to look and try to understand what worked for others and use their experiences for our mutual profit.

These are simple dictums but often lost or forgotten while we make new pledges, wishes and resolutions that do not take them into account and so in many instances are unrealistic.

The Holy Bible reminds us that the Almighty's Law is reread every year. Thus when we end the last reading we turn it around to start from the beginning. And we repeat this from year to year as a circle of life while we progress through time.

May these words resonate with you and may each one of you participate in and enjoy the journey of the coming days, the next year and the new millennium with health and happiness, with respect for each other and with love.

Ainsley Henriques on behalf of The Wardens, Directors and members of the United Congregation of Israelites.
