THE EDITOR, Madam:
I WOULD like to respond to the letter in the January 4 issue regarding Air Jamaica. Yes, it is true that Air Jamaica can aggravate the most patient and tolerant of travellers but which airline doesn't? I've lived in Canada, the US and now Barbados and I fly throughout the Caribbean region on a regular basis. I've flown a number of international and national airlines and my luggage has been left behind. I've been scared half to death from flights riddled with turbulence. I've come across the most impolite and even downright racist flight attendants and ticket agents.
Everyone else all over the region and even in North America, is crying down Jamaica and everything that is Jamaican . I will not be a part of the destructive force. The fact is, it doesn't matter that flying American Airline may make you a target for the next trigger-happy terrorists and that they have lost luggage and have ill-mannered workers, Americans (and others) remain loyal. Why shouldn't I remain loyal to my national airline.
Instead of ripping apart our national airline, why don't we write letters of constructive criticism and even recommendations for change to Air Jamaica. I did, after my sister had been bumped off their flight to Barbados on Christmas day 1999. The result - she flew to Barbados on Air Jamaica for Christmas 2000 and she did so at half the cost.
Air Jamaica, for me you will always be "Something special in the air".
I am etc.,
