Glenmuir student wins Regional award in CXC

SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Tayesha Turner of Glenmuir High School in Clarendon won the award for the most outstanding performance in the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Business Education for the year 2000.

Tayesha, who is in form 6B at the Glenmuir High School and pursing her 'A' levels was the only student from Jamaica to receive this award this year.

The award ceremony was held on December 7, 2000 at the Sam Lord's Castle Resort in Barbados. She was accompanied to Barbados by her mother Mrs. Pauline Henry-Blake. Young Turner received a full scholarship to the University of the West Indies for four years, a plaque and cash award.

While in Barbados, Tayesha made courtesy calls on the Barbadian Prime Minister and Minister of Education. Tayesha told the Gleaner on Wednesday, December 13, that she was elated. She added that the award motivated her to work harder. 'I'm extremely happy to have received the award, it was great. It pays to work hard", she told The Gleaner. Tayesha who did exceedingly well in the CXC is not bothered by the publicity.
