Harbour View fall short

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS Harbour View narrowly missed out on advancing as the Caribbean team to the CONCACAF Club Champ-ionships yesterday when they played to a 1-1 draw with Trinidadian team Joe Public in Trinidad and Tobago.

The team from east Kingston, which won this NPL season's end-of-round final, needed a victory yesterday after losing their first game against W Connection of Trinidad and Tobago before rebounding to beat Cariocou of Haiti.

Joe Public, the team which advanced from the region last year, needed a draw to progress after securing a win and a draw - it achieved that goal.

After playing out a goalless first half, the home team took the lead just two minutes into the second half through Trinidad and Tobago international Nigel Pierre. Former national representative Ali Rose pulled one back for the Jamaican team in the 77th minute.

Any chance the Jamaicans had of riding the momentum to snatch a win in the dying minutes was wiped out with the dismissal of overlapping wingback Baris Johnson. The former Excelsior High School Manning Cup representative was ejected in the 81st minute for a second bookable offence.

The team returns home today.
