HUNDREDS WERE turned away last Friday night at the opening of Moments nightclub, Palmers Cross, Clarendon.
Bling Dawg, Madd Anju, Delly, Christopher, Shad Du, Patchy, Red Rat, Spragga Benz gave the crowd a string of dancehall hits that they will long remember.
Bling Dawg elicited loud roars when he sneaked on stage unannounced, an indication of how much he has become a part of the imagery of the current dancehall scenario.
Madd Anju and Delly, the two other acts billed for the event, certainly had the attention of the audience, so too did young singer Christopher.
Spragga Benz and Red Rat did a rich repertoire of hits and delighted the audience, showing why they are fixtures on major dancehall showcases.
Shad Du, who opened the show, started the fire and new artiste Patchy, famed for his combination The Business, certainly did please.
The decor is splendid, but there are few kinks which need to be ironed out. Foremost among these is the sound system which needs improvement.
Acting chairman of the Creative Productive and Training Centre (CPTC), Dr. Hopeton Dunn and its chief executive officer, Marie Cunningham should be congratulated for the introduction of its cable operation, Creative TV.
This is the kind of thinking one expects from an organisation which has 'creative' in its name.
CPTC has some of the best equipment at its disposal to make it into a production powerhouse. The terrestrial broadcast houses were not providing enough business for CPTC and so it has moved into the area of cable.
Clearly, Creative TV is not the leader in the supply of local programming, as Keith Foote, with his Reggae Sun TV, has got off to a early start and is doing a good job.
Downsound Records, that Jamaican label which has been busy promoting reggae shows across the Caribbean, will be featuring a number of dancehall sounds in action on the Internet. Among those involved in the juggling will be Adonai, Coppershot and Renaissance.
The event is set to take place at the Downsound headquarters at 46 Constant Spring Road, Kingston tomorrow night at 9 sharp. Those who want to participate can contact Downsound.
The webcast is a joint effort between Downsound and www.afflictedyard.com.
Judith Bodley and Paula-Ann Porter are two 'happening' young media personalities. These two have a good working relationship which comes out in the kind of happy energy they transmit to their listeners.
They are willing to try things as was evidenced with their very creative approach to the Electronic Press Kit (EPK) for the 'Sting 2000' launch. It is this freshness of ideas which is needed in the media and entertainment sectors.
