'Vintage Showdown 2000' well received

Patrons having a good time. - Winston Sill

THE VINTAGE Showdown 2000 series continued over the weekend at La Roose on Port Henderson Road, Portmore, St. Catherine.

The event, staged by Energy Promotions, saw popular disc jockey Richie B making his debut as a vintage selector. And he displayed competence and familiarity with vintage music, which was well received by the audience.

Also playing on Saturday night were Errol from the Rock, Gladdy of Wild Bunch disco and Stokey Love from Rapture Disco, who made his first appearance of the series.

Exciting fashion show

The turnout was good and the vibes was great. There was an exciting fashion show featuring the Miguel Models, displaying fashions from the 1950s and '60s. They brought back the crinoline, gabardine, Afro, wedge shoes, dashiki and other styles of dress which dominated that period of life.

The selectors kept patrons dancing as they dug into their vaults for the best selections, trying to outdo each other. It was a night when persons let go of inhibitions and put their feet to work. Couples were out in numbers and as they paraded around the dance floor, they added a romantic touch to the night's proceedings.

The series had an Ocho Rios leg on Sunday night at the Amnesia nightclub.

Weekend shows were the grand finale for the series in Jamaica for this year. The series officially ends in mid-December in Canada, with legs in Montreal and Toronto. These will feature Cancer of Venus Disco, formerly of Stone Love and Donovan Dacres and Richie B. It will also give Jamaicans in Canada chance to send greetings to family and friends through a live simulcast between RJR 94 FM and CHRY 105.5.
