Dwayne Blidgen reaping success

Dwayne Blidgen

THE ACADEMIC achievements, deligence and persistence of 19-year-old Dwayne Blidgen speak volumes of the prospects of this young star.

A past head boy of DeCarteret College, in Mandeville, Dwayne also held the positions of deputy form captain and form captain at the school. Although he was expected to assist with the proper monitoring of students, Dwayne remained an A student. And for his hard work, he earned several academic certificates at the secondary level and was successful in 7 CXC subjects.

"Success is never an easy thing," said Dwayne, adding that the recipe for success included persistence, commitment and discipline, guided by Divine principles.

A Christian and a member of the Emmanuel Apostolic Church in Lancaster, Manchester, Dwayne believes that "a winner never quits and a quitter never wins".

He is doing his third year at Knox Community College, Manchester, where he is pursuing an Associate Degree in business studies. The course, he said, is to be one of many he intends to pursue on the road to becoming a marketing manager.

In October, Dwayne was presented with the Jamaica Council for Tertiary Education Award of Excellence and he was also recognised as the most outstanding student for the year for 1999/2000 at Knox Community College.

Dwayne believes that consistent studying is one of the contributors to his success. "It is important that you study consistently. It is never wise for you to allow your notes to pile up before you study," he advised.

"Put God first, do your part and you will succeed in your endeavours", he said.

Born in Lancaster, Dwayne is one of four children of Valma, also known as 'Pam' and Lanford Blidgen.
