PAJ to honour veteran

SPORTS JOURNALIST Tony Becca will be honoured by the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) as the veteran journalist of the year on November 29. His award is one of the features of National Journalism Week which will be celebrated by the PAJ between November 26 and December 2.

The week will begin with a church service at the Christian Life Fellowship in Papine at which the National Press Award will be given to the local non-profit organisation Family Life Ministries for outstanding community service.

On November 28, Linda Wint, the widow of veteran PAJ member Carl Wint, will present her husband's collection of books to the organisation's library. The ceremony will also launch the exhibitions of entries in this year's National Journalism Awards which will take place on December 2 and which will honour the achievements of those who have given service to journalism. The exhibition, which features published articles, photographs and audio and videotapes, will be open to members of the public from November 27 to December 1.

Guest speaker at the function, which will be at the Terra Nova Hotel, will be Adrian Robinson, broadcaster and chairman of the Jamaica Tourist Board who will address the topic, "The press and development: The role of the local media in shaping national consciousness."
