THE ST. ELIZABETH Homecoming Found-ation has announced the establishment of a special $50 million fund-raising project aimed at ensuring its the long term sustainability of its development initiatives for the parish.
Speaking at the launch of Homecoming 2000 The Best of St. Bess, at the Hilton Hotel in Kingston, the Foundation chairman, Oliver Jones said with seven years of successfully staging the island's premier homecoming event, the goal now was to ensure it was able to continue to provide for the people of St. Elizabeth.
The plan will see the Foundation embarking on a major outreach programme in which St. Elizabethans from home and abroad will be invited to make a donation of $10 a week or $520 for the year "towards a specific Foundation programme initiatives, whether in education, skills training community development or other priority areas".
The Foundation also announced the establishment of an associated global initiative which will see the appointment of special "Homecoming Ambassadors" outsxtanding "St. Elizabethans" who will be charged with special responsibilities for the further promotion of the work of the foundation.
According to Mr. Jones, the St. Bess Homecoming Week activity has clearly established a strong and enviable reputation which not only benefits the parish but the entire country.
Homecoming 2000 will take place from November 25 to December 2, and among the activities planned will be an education exposition and career day, school motivation programmes throughout the parish, a gospel concert, health fair, the Holland Bamboo Run and Golden Awards Banquet.
As part of the Homecoming 2000 celebrations a special commemorative magazine will be produced, highlighting the activities and special features of the parish. Another innovation this year will see the use of the Foundation's website www . southcoastjamaica . com in the promotion of the various activities, including a web casting of selected events.
