A cartoon in poor taste

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I WRITE to strongly protest the insinuations contained in the cartoon published in Friday's edition of your newspaper. Not only are the implications of the cartoon insulting, but they do not represent a factual situation.

No where is there any evidence or indication of the Prime Minister or any other members of this administration approaching the new US Administration to beg for anything.

That we should always seek to depict our relations with other countries as being characterised by mendicancy, is not only far from the truth but also speaks to the determination by some such as this cartoonist to always seek to paint our leaders and our institutions in the darkest possible tones.

If there is any lesson to be learnt from the US elections it should be that institutions transcend the wishes of individuals and hence should not be tampered with.

Let's hope that this is not too difficult a lesson to learn or that is learned before it is too late.

I am etc.,

MAXINE HENRY-WILSON,

Minister of Information
