Letter of the Day - Leaders must rule, not dons

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I READ with disgust and pain of the continuous slaughter of innocent lives business people, in particular. When is my Prime Minister and the Minister of National Security and Justice going to take drastic action for these barbaric acts against law abiding citizens?

Instead of trying to procure guns, (which will inevitably get into the wrong hands) they should ask for the expertise of Scotland Yard and/or the FBI to help solve and deter crime. If they ask nicely, we might even get help for free.

I understand that all deportees sent to Jamaica arrive with accompanying data. They therefore should be required by law, to report to the nearest police station daily. Please Mr. Prime Minister, I love my country. I want to come back home; and there are many others like me, but we fear for our lives.

Carry out the law of the country, i.e. when one is found guilty of murder, he should be hung by the neck until he is dead. The modern murderer knows that after a court conviction he will be put in prison, and sooner or later, more sooner than later, he will be walking out a free man. The operative word is walking, not jumping over a wall, let alone running! Mr. Prime Minister, we want our elected leaders to rule our sweet Jamaica, not the dons.

I am, etc.,

TRICIA SIMONS
