New faces of fashion

ON SUNDAY night, SAINT International presented the final of its FashionFace of the Caribbean on the lawns of Terra Nova Hotel, Waterloo Road, Kingston.

The event saw Rayon Parchment winning from a field of 11 men and Randy Lynch from 12 contestants.

Models were judged on poise, runway modelling, personality, photographic skills and their ability to make garments come alive. As the models slithered down the runway, most of them were greeted by catcalls and witty remarks.

The event was presented against a simple backdrop of pepper lights strung around greenery and the models were presented in a well choreographed sequence.

Most of the male hopefuls seemed shy and inhibited, while there was a good crop of female aspirants, who, with proper grooming, could make it to the top.

The most rewarding aspect of the night was the fashion segment, which highlighted garments from Barry Moncrieffe, Les Campbell and Samantha's, with those from the latter fashion house being outstanding.

Materials and styles were cool and easy flowing and accessories appropriate.

Barry Moncrieffe's pieces were simple, but looked expensive. Les Campbell's female garments were elegant. Some featured revealing slits and plunging necklines in a kaleidoscope of colours. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the male designs which showed uninviting colours and combinations.

However, the appearance of Stacy McKenzie, international model and the famed GUESS? model Chris O created a stir.

The event was organised by Model Management, founded by Dwight Peters.
