Lara, Shiv progress well

HEAD coach of the West Indies cricket team, Roger Harper, is confident left-handers Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul will make the tour to Australia, after yesterday's training session at Sabina Park.

With the final results scheduled to be disclosed today as to whether Lara and Chanderpaul is fit for the Australian tour, Harper said Lara was "getting there" and Chanderpaul "is in shape".

"The guys (Lara and Chanderpaul) have come through the sessions pretty well," said Harper when asked about the fitness of two of the most reliable batsmen on the team.

"We are very confident that everything will go fine for our final assessment which will be done (today)," he said.

About the present condition of Lara, Harper said: "Well, I don't think Brian (Lara) is in the shape that he was usually in but I think he is working towards that and he is getting there."

Lara, the world record holder for highest first-class and Test scores, is recovering from a strained right lower hip which kept him out of the recent Red Stripe Bowl limited overs tournament.

"Chanderpaul is in shape, the worry was his arm but he is so far coming through the session pretty well," said Harper about the middle-order batsman.

Every member of the team went through the same training regiment yesterday with the exception of right-handed opener Sherwin Campbell who started training about 20 minutes late.

Campbell strained his shoulder during the Red Stripe Bowl.

About the one-week training camp which started on Monday, Harper said: "I would say the camp has gone pretty well so far. I think we had had some meaningingful net sessions and sessions indoors."

The camp concludes tomorrow.
