Humour on stage

AWARD-WINNING PLAYWRIGHT Basil Dawkins' new exciting play, What The Hell Is Happening To Us Dear? had its gala opening at the Little Theatre recently.

That night patrons described the play as "a sure winner", "engaging", "current", "controversial", "urgent", "frank", "bitter sweet yet extremely funny".

The leading actors are Volier Johnson, Winston 'Bello' Bell, Grace McGhie and Terri Salmon.

In describing the cast for the show, director Buddy Pouyat said it is "a powerful team and the play gives each actor opportunities to shine. Though the issues dealt with are serious, extra generous portions of humour are lavishly served up in each scene, because these days if you don't laugh you get sick and die early. We want everyone to be healthy and live long".

'What The Hell Is Happening To Us Dear?' runs from Tuesdays to Fridays at 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

The play takes a candid look at the impact on one middle-class family of the economic fallout which has left the businessman/breadwinner bankrupt and another family from the inner city whose breadwinner has suddenly made it big as a 'dancehall' DJ.

The play explores what happens when the paths of these typical uptown/downtown Kingston inhabitants not only meet, but inevitably collide.
