THE EDITOR, Madam:
I USE the privilege of using your columns to write to the Hon. Arnold Bertram, Minister of Local Government forcefully bringing to his attention the deplorable condition of the Parish Council Road #115 Mt. Rose through Mt. Regale, Seaton to Luna going into the parish of St. Andrew ending at Mt. Charles where it meets the Lawrence Tavern border to Temple Hall main road.
Minister, I have seen a copy of a letter recently written to you by M.P. Harry Douglas. He has put his description of the road mildly; I would implore you, visit this roadway and I am sure you would immediately have it fixed.
The residents of these districts are a 100% farmers and school children. Children have to walk as much as four miles, morning and evening due to the condition of the road, Mt. Regale to Mt. Charles, to enable them to get vehicular transportation to attend the Oberlin High School.
In April a student from St. Mary High School died in a motor vehicle accident. Weeks ago, a student from the Mt. Regale Primary School died when the pick-up she was travelling in overturned just minutes away from her school because of the bad road condition of this Parish Council road.
The farmers in these districts have produce for market and they have to take it on their heads, three or four miles to get transportation.
On behalf of the honest law-abiding residents of these districts, I plead with you, Minister, please fix the roads now.
I am, etc.,
OBIDIAH HENRY
