Chinese can change flights in transit

THE EDITOR, Madam:

WITH REFERENCE to an article that appeared in the Gleaner on Tuesday, October 24, 2000 under the headline "Dutch airline pull-out to affect Chinese community", I would like to point out that Chinese citizens can change flights in transit in any international airport in Germany without a visa as long as they do not leave the transit area and just board a connecting flight (this also applies to Jamaican citizens).

Since LTU and Condor, the two German charter airlines, fly non-stop from Germany to Montego Bay, they could be chosen for travel to Jamaica. Condor, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, flies twice weekly directly from Frankfurt to Montego Bay. This should be very convenient, as international flights from Beijing, Shanghai and other places usually choose to land in Frankfurt first.

I am, etc.,

DR. BERND VON MUENCHOW-POHL

Deputy Head of Mission

Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany
