Dinthill win fourth straight

By Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU-

TWO time champions Dinthill Technical scored their fourth straight win in Zone J of the Pepsi Sports Plus daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition yesterday, blanking Glengoffe High 3-0.

Dinthill became the first team to win four games this season and opened up a six-point lead in Zone J.

In another game played at the Bramwell Clarke Sports Complex, Ewarton and Charlemont played to a 3-3 draw.

The competition continues this afternoon with 30 matches in 11 zones and will see seven other schools gunning to maintain their perfect records.

The featured matchup will be at Spalding where the home team will entertain Holmwood in a matchup of teams with perfect records and separated by goal-difference.

Both teams have won two games so far this season and are yet to concede a goal. The Barry Watson-coached Holmwood have scored six goals so far while Spalding have scored seven.

The teams had close games last year with Holmwood having a slight edge, winning the second game 2-1 after drawing the first encounter. Both teams advanced from the zone, Holmwood just failed to make it to the semi-finals while Spalding lost all three games in the Inter-Zone round and dropped out.

Clarendon College, Rusea's, Cedric Titus and Glenmuir will all be seeking their fourth straight win while Black River, still high on their upset win over Munro College will be going after their second win.

Clarendon College will face their toughest test yet when they travel to second-placed Edwin Allen in Zone H. Like Clarendon College, Edwin Allen are yet to concede a goal but were held to a 0-0 draw by Vere Technical on Wednesday and are two points behind the leaders who have scored 14 goals in their three matches.

After cruising through their first three matches, Rusea's will have the edge over Anchovy at home in Lucea but a fourth straight win is not guaranteed.

Anchovy were denied a perfect record after a late equaliser from Frome in their game on Wednesday forced a draw. They will be hoping to return to winning ways against the class team in the group.

Glenmuir have been doing enough to win so far this season, twice escaping draws and will have to dig deep to leave Ebony Park with full points against second place Garvey Maceo.

The Ben Francis KO champions lead Zone I with nine points, four more than Garvey Maceo who are just ahead of Lennon on goal-difference.

New comers Bustamante on four points will be seeking their second win of the season when they host Lennon. Bustamante upset Kemps Hill 2-0 in their first daCosta Cup outing before holding Garvey Maceo to a 0-0 draw.

Cedric Titus are off to a good start with three wins and lead Zone D by two points over Ferncourt, the team they face this afternoon.

Black River should start favourites to beat Lacovia and at least join idle Munro College in second place with six points in Zone E.

St. Elizabeth Technical (STETHS), on six points, will take on DeCarteret in a rescheduled game.
