THE 3-y-o and up overnight allowance for the G.A. "Sarge" Bucknor Memorial Trophy is today's Caymanas Park feature to be contested by 11 starters.
Among them is the vastly improved three-year-old gelding WYLE COYOTE who goes for his third win from his last five starts. He can expect stiff opposition from a number of runners, chief of which are the sparingly raced American filly EXECUTIVE PROFILE, VOLCANE, PALIMONY and DIXIE FLYER.
With DELAY OF GAME badly drawn at post position one, MISS GOTHAM CITY stepping up from claiming company, PHYSICS BOOK looking to have too much on his plate and former Caribbean Sprint Champion HERECOMESTHEJUDGE long past his best, I see the race coming down to a straight fight between WYLE COYOTE and EXECUTIVE PROFILE, both well drawn at post positions 9 and 10.
The Wayne DaCosta-trained EXECUTIVE PROFILE was strongly whispered to win over 1400 metres last Saturday, but in the end could only manage seventh place, beaten eight lengths by fellow importee NUTTIN BUT RED.
Although beaten, EXECUTIVE PROFILE was not disgraced. The four-year-old filly actually disputed the lead with POWER AND MOTION passing the half mile and turned for home just marginally ahead. That being her first outing since May 13, EXECUTIVE PROFILE will have stripper fitter for today's engagement. She will also welcome the reduced trip.
As a result of connections opting for apprentice Andrew Wright, EXECUTIVE PROFILE comes in pretty light with 47.0kg and having notched her only win over the straight back in March, can prove equal to the task with a lot in her favour. She has good speed and should use it to full advantage.
Still, I prefer WYLE COYOTE who hails from the star-studded stables of leading trainer Philip Feanny.
The three-year-old son of Exotic Traveller ran a blinder in defeat under topweight in the Jockey Club Stakes over 1400 metres on August 19 when caught close home by SPEED FREAK.
Prior to that he beat none other than RATIFIED by a short head over 1200 metres on August 5 and ran THE BARBARIAN to a neck over 1100 metres five weeks earlier.
Feanny has WYLE COYOTE in the peak of condition and despite the sound claims of EXECUTIVE PROFILE, he should be good enough to take home this trophy with leading all-time jockey Winston Griffiths again at the helm.
DIXIE FLYER, who enjoys galloping over the straight, along with the fleet-footed PALIMONY and DELAY OF GAME, have good superfecta prospects.
Other firm fancies on the card are PEACE AND LOVE to stave off DANCE WITH THE CAT in the 4th race, ELEGANT STAR to outsprint DIRECTIONAL SIGN in the 5th, EVER HARD to repeat at the expense of MAVIC and LUCKI PLUCKI in the 6th, the Feanny-trained DR. R.S.F. to cool stable-companion PERSONAL NEMESIS in the 7th and the grey VERA'S SOCKS over MAGIC DANCER and DANCE TEACHER in the 10th.
