Public transportation woes

THE EDITOR, Madam:

AS A recent visitor to the island, I was dismayed at the lack of organised mass transportation not only was the railway shut down, but there was also the absence of large country buses that plied on schedule from town-to-town.

What to my mind was shocking was the dramatic increase in the number of used Japanese-made cars that have been allowed to congest the motorways. It used to take one hour and 20 minutes from Mandeville to Kingston 10 years ago; but today that trip takes three hours, due to the congestion by these new-found robot/taxis.

My main concerns are:

1) Where does Jamaica obtain funds to purchase parts for these increased number of vehicles?

2) It appears that our young people have turned their backs on farming in preference for running robots.

3) Did Jamaica discover and develop some new oil wells? If so, where are they located?

I am etc.,

ALBERT ROSE
