RESIDENTS OF Mandeville have welcomed the renovations being done on the Mandeville Public Hospital, where a new wing was opened earlier this month.
Patients at the hospital had high praises for Minister of Health John Junor and the staff of the Southern Health Authority for seeing to the completion of the facility inspite of initial problems when the project first started.
The Italian firm Razzani De Eccher which carried out the work is also being praised for the quality work and remaining on schedule.
The new facility is being described as one of the most modern in the Caribbean and when completed will cost $750 million.
Started three years ago, the rehabilitation is being funded by the Inter American Develop-ment Bank and the Jamaican Govern-ment and was undertaken by the Ministry of Health under its Health Services Rationali-ation Programme (HSRP).
The hospital now has specially designed and landscaped walkways and parking lots. There are also a maternity, male and female wards, a pharmacy, laundry, kitchen and a new morgue. Previously the hospital had to use the morgue services of private undertakers.
The operating theatre is expected to be fully functional shortly once the staff complete their training on the new equipment that has been installed.
Minister of Health John Junor told The Gleaner that he hopes all the work will be done by early November so that the residents of the parish can have access to the best possible health care available.
