The rescue dog and first class citizenship

THE EDITOR, Madam:

IT MUST be another example of the 'first class' citizenship status that most Jamaicans in Jamaica claim as opposed to the status of Jamaicans who live in the US, that the Americans are allowed to bring this dog into Jamaica, jumping onto Jamaican citizen's beds, sniffing their sheets and what not, while exposing the population to possibilities of the risk of rabies.

One can understand why the American Government would want to do this, as they are looking out for the best interest of their citizens, but why did the Jamaican Government have to say yes? Is the safety of 2.6 million Jamaicans, less important to the Jamaican Government, than the safety of one American citizen? I am sure that the poor, humiliated lady who was on TV last night (Wednesday) with the dog on her bed, is counting her blessings that she is a first class citizen.

How many missing Jamaicans in the US would it take for the Americans to waive any law, implemented for the safety of the American public, and in the process allow their own citizens to be so publicly humiliated in their own country?

First Class citizens indeed!

I am etc.,
